Liberia’s sprinter Emmanuel Matadi is through to the men’s 100m run semifinals at the Paris Olympics.
He qualified as 2nd best fourth after finishing fourth in the Round 1 – Heat 7 clocking 10.08 seconds.
The men’s 100 meter semifinal will take place Sunday at 2:05 p.m. ET.
The first two finishers in each of three heats, and the next two fastest overall, will advance to the final, which is set to begin Sunday at 3:50 p.m. ET.
Matadi is joined by 10 other Africa athletes for the semifinal.
They are Emmanuel Esseme (9.98), Letsile Tegbogo (10.01), Kayinsola Ajayi (10.02), Akani Simbine (10.03), Shaun Maswanganyi (10.06), Benjamin Richardson (10.06), Rasheed Saminu (10.06), and Benjamin Azamati (10.08), as well as Ferdinand Omanyala (10.08), and Favour Oghdne Tejiri Ashe (10.16)
Matadi competed for Liberia at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
In Rio, Matadi posted a time of 10.31 in round one of the 100-meter dash event to rank 43rd and he placed fifth in his 200m first-round heat with a time of 20.49. His time placed him 30th overall.In Tokyo, he turned in a time of 10.25 in his first-round 100m heat to rank 35th.American, Noah Lyles is the reigning 100 meter world.
