Liberia failed to win a single match at the FIBA Zone-3 Afrobasket under-18 male and female qualifiers in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Liberia male U-18 on Friday lost to Nigeria by 82-49 points, having shown some improvement in the first quarter.
On match-day one, Liberia lost to Ghana by 64-56 points, even though Ghana had just six players for the match.
On Thursday, August 1, 2024, it was even more painful, the team again suffered a 92-61 points loss to host Ivory Coast.
The Red, White and Blue outfits’ chances for South Africa 2025 is however over, but they will complete their journey against fellow strugglers Benin on Saturday at 3:30PM.
The women’s team has also bid farewell after conceding two straight defeats in the best of three category.
They lost 52-50 points to Ivory Coast on Thursday followed by a devastating 90-09 points’ humiliation to Nigeria on Friday.
It is the first time in more than 15 years that Liberia is participating in an international competition.
The participating nations are: hosts Ivory Coast, Liberia, Ghana, Benin, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Niger and Togo.
The Liberian delegation of 37 members is expected back in the country on Monday, August 5, 2025.
