The Liberia Chess Federation has announced the holding of several chess tournaments from 19-20 July 2024 in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
This year’s celebration of World Chess Day is focused on attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the most chess games played on a single day.
“As the world is turned into a giant chess board this Saturday, chess players and fans in Liberia will be holding series of events that will be captured as part of the attempt to set a new world record,” a statement from the federation said.
The activities lined-up by the LCF include: games to be played at its head office from night till dawn, early morning media and community engagement, a street parade in Paynesville, and a series of speed chess tournaments to exhaust the rest of the day.
The LCF has herein appealed to all of its clubs and members, as well as the public to contribute (in cash or kind) to the hosting of these events on International Chess Day 2024..
The games at SKD will be preceded by a short indoor opening ceremony where we will have an official remark/statement from a representative of the Government of Liberia.
