Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian football house (Fecafoot) has come under spotlights, after clubs representing the country’s at continental club football competitions suffered administrive issues over the weekend.
Fovu De Baham and Victoria United were beaten away and at home, as both clubs couldn’t get the required players for the respective games.
At the SKD Stadium on Sunday, Liberian Cup winners, Paynesville FC beat eight-man Fovu De Baham 4-0 in the first leg of the Confederation cup.
The match should have started at 4pm, but was delayed for up to 30 plus minutes, as the Cameroonian club had just six players available up to kick off.
Four of the first 10 De Baham’s players that boarded a flight to Monrovia weren’t registered with pictures in the connect system.
30 minutes after official kickoff time, additional three players and two officials including the Coach arrived, with only two of the three players, including the goalkeeper registered in the system with photos.
The match officials allowed the game to be played with the consent of the Liberian team. Paynesville went on to win 4-0 and must avoid a 5-0 defeat in Cameroon to progress.
While playing at home, another Cameroonian team, Victoria United had just 13 players registered in the CAF Connect system.
They were beaten 1-0 by Ghana’s Smartex in the CAF Champions League preliminary first leg tie.
Fans and Cameroonian football journalists are blaming the football association for the situation, alleging that the country’s football house doesn’t have a standard system to manage clubs and players.
