Watanga FC has confirmed that the two legs of its CAF Champions League preliminaries will be played in the backyard of their opponents.
Watanga were due to face MC Algers of Algeria on the weekend of August 16-18 at the SKD Stadium in Paynesville.
In a communication to CAF through LFA, Watanga said the decision was predicated by planned international friendlies in North Africa.
It added that the decision will also reduce financial burden on the club on traveling twice to the north for international friendlies and return leg of the Champions League.
In a Message to LIBSports24, Watanga President Jlayteh Saryor said the club will expose its players to scouts from North Africa and Europe, who will attend all of the practice matches and the two Qualifying matches.
News of Watanga playing both legs of the Qualifiers away from home has since hit like wildfire,with supporters of the club threatening to boycott future international matches.
The quiet the tension,the Chief Executive Officer of the Club,Andy Quamie has called for gathering with the supporters at the SKD this Thursday.
Watanga will play FC Fassell at the venue in a club-friendly this Thursday in the morning hours.
