Eight athletes will represent the Country at this year’s Olympic Games in Paris, France, Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF) has announced. Liberia competed for the first time in the Summer Olympic Games at the Melbourne, Australia Games in 1956. The Liberian team will be led by Joseph Fahnbulleh, who won two gold medals at the 2024 Senior African Athletics Championship held in Cameroon from 21-26 June. The Sports Writers Association of Liberia – SWAL has described as total mockery, the allotments made for sports development in the 2024 national budget. The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) has summersaulted on a decision to exclude Basketball from the 2024/2025 National County Sports meet (NCSM). Acting Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Murvee Gray at a news conference recently, announced that basketball won’t be featured in the annual sporting festival, citing financial constraints as a reason.
