Liberia will face Algeria, Equitorial Guinea and Togo in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification pool.
Algeria, ranked 44 globally and 7th in Africa, are the favorite in group E. The Desert Foxs have reached the finals 20 times, winning it on two occasions, 1990 and 2019.
Equatorial Guinea, also grouped with Liberia in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers are the second favorite team in the group. They won the Lone Star 1-0 on 20th December 2023, at the SKD Sports Complex, but lost the three points to Liberia for fielding an illegal players.
Togo, who frustrated Liberia’s hope of reaching a third Nations Cup finals at the 2017 edition with a stunning 2-2 draw at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) on June 5,
2016, are the third favorite in the Zone.
With a fantastic start to 2024, the Lone Star, underdog in Group E can cause an upset when the qualifiers start in September.
The 48 competing teams have been split into 12 groups of four, with the top two in each group reaching the finals in Morocco. The qualifiers will take place across six match days in September, October and November this year. The 2025 Afcon finals will then begin on 21 December next year with the final on 18 January 2026.
